Behind the Scenes: A Commercial-Grade Camera Install with UniFi Protect

We wanted to share something a little different this week. Instead of a how-to or a security warning, we’re pulling back the curtain on a project we’ve genuinely enjoyed working on: a commercial-grade camera system built around UniFi Protect.

If you’ve ever wondered what actually goes into a professional camera install, it starts long before anything goes up on a wall. Our bench work for this project included a PoE network switch, a UniFi NVR (Network Video Recorder), and a full lineup of dome cameras. Every single cable gets run, terminated, and tested right here in our shop first. Each camera gets labeled and verified on the network before we ever load it into the truck.

That prep work isn’t just busywork. It’s the difference between an install day that goes smoothly and one that turns into a scramble to track down a bad connection with a business owner waiting on you. When everything’s been checked ahead of time, the system goes up clean and works right from the first day.

We’ve been doing more of this kind of work lately, cameras and access control for small businesses here in Jefferson and the surrounding area, and it’s quickly become a part of the job we look forward to. There’s something satisfying about turning a tangle of cables and hardware into a system an owner can actually rely on, whether that’s keeping an eye on a storefront after hours or just having peace of mind that the property is covered.

If better camera coverage or access control has been on your mind for your own business, we’d be happy to walk through what a setup like this could look like for you. Reach out anytime, we’re always glad to talk it through.
